Lipstick Under My Burkha is a film that I really wanted to watch. After the endless controversies that followed with this movie, I almost thought I’ll have to torrent it. But thanks to the cast and crew who fought back, I got the chance of watching this AMAZING movie on the big screen.  A story of four women living in a small city of Bhopal, Lipstick Under My Burkha talks about their dreams and desires. This movie doesn’t break any stereotypes, like I thought it would. This movie didn’t remove the stigma attached to being a woman, like I thought it would. And this movie wasn’t a breakthrough for injustices happening to women, like I thought it will be. You know, how you go to watch a movie thinking it’s going to change your life in a split second? Well, Lipstick Under My Burkha won’t do that to you either.  Now, if you’re thinking I’m dissing the movie, I am not. Because there’s so much more to this film. It’s a bold attempt at putting on display the lives of four women so close to reality, that for the most part of it you forget it’s just a movie. It’s about chasing your secret desires and inner dreams. It’s about how, just like all other woman, we accept our reality and fight it at the same time. It’s about how, no matter what takes us down, we dream anyway. Lipstick Under My Burkha is a movie that you will relate to. It’s a movie that will make you think. And it’s a movie that will stay with you for a long, long time. So here are 10 moments from the film that made me go ‘hell yeah’! 1. When Rehana says, ‘Humari Azaadi Se Aap Itna Darte Kyun Hain?’ …because sometimes, somewhere you HAVE to give it back to the society.  2. When Leela wanted to be a badass business woman! Being able to choose a life for yourself, instead of someone else doing it for you. Is that too much to ask for? 3. When Usha embraces her sexual desires! Because post fifty, you are not allowed to want and need sex! 4. When Shirin buys a swimsuit for Usha… And this proves women are not just each other's’ enemies! 5. When Leela had to choose between love and a better life… …because it all comes down to what’s best for you as opposed to what you really want…  6. When Rehana dares to fall in love! Knowing she might not end up with the same guy, knowing she isn’t allowed to love, knowing she’ll be heartbroken… she still dares to love! Pyar kiya toh darna kya!? Dare to fall in Love. 7. When Shirin accepts her promotion… Even though her husband is a complete jerk, Shirin goes out and does what she wants to do. Not for anyone else, but for herself. So what, if she goes out and works for herself? 8. When Usha indulges in phone sex and actually enjoys it! …now, isn’t that just amazing? Why can’t people believe that women too have sexual desires and it’s absolutely okay.  9. When Shirin confronts her husband’s girlfriend… Even though Shirin gives in every time her husband forces her in bed, she still goes out and confronts her husband’s lover without thinking of the consequences. 10. When they all dared to dream even when they failed… In the last scene, when all the four of them are sitting on the floor with their dreams shattered in front of them and reality slapping them right in the face, they still dream of…‘lipstick vaale sapne’.
